In the glass industry, the hammer crusher is widely used to conduct the secondary crushing and the fine crushing operation of the crisp materials and the ones of medium hardness, such as feldspar, fluorite, limestone, dolomite, and so on.

The hammer crusher can be divided into two types, the single rotor hammer crusher and the double-rotor one. The former can be divided into the reversible one and the irreversible one. It can also be divided into the hammer crusher with one row of hammerheads and the one with many rows of hammerheads. The principle of the hammer crusher is that materials are crushed by the impact force from the high-speed rotating hammerheads. Its process is as follows: The material is sent into the machine and it is hit and crushed by the high-speed rotating hammerheads. Then, with the kinetic energy, at high speed, the crushed material will run to the lining plates inside the shell of the machine and the grates, which is just the secondary crushing part. After that, the materials, whose size are less than the gap between the grates, will be discharged from the gap while the materials which are of big block will be hit back to the rotation track of the hammerheads to be crushed continually. Besides, the materials, which have fallen down on the lining plates and the grates, will be ground again by the hammerheads. However, in the crushing process, materials may hit and crush each other.

The most obvious feature of the hammer crusher is that its crushing ratio is high. And its structure is simple and compact. The power consumption of it is low. And it is convenient for maintenance, repair and the replacement of the quick-wear parts. The particle size of its final product is uniform and it is of less over crushing phenomena. But, its parts, including the hammerheads, grates, lining plates, and rotors, are easy to be worn, especially when it is crushing the hard materials. When there are too much moisture and clay of the material, the gap of the grates may be jammed, which will lower the productivity of the hammer crusher and increase the power consumption and the abrasion of the parts like hammerheads.
